wits end board game

About – Description

The Wit’s End board game was first released in 1995 and was created by Mike Cramer. This word-based trivia game is suitable for parties and families alike.

It covers a wide range of topics including geography, culture, arts and history giving it a strong educational appeal.

Who’s it best suited for?

Wit’s End the board game is suitable for up to 6 players. However, it is best enjoyed with 3 players as it seems to get the right balance with three people playing.

As the age recommendation is 16 years and over, it is suited for families with older children.

Wit’s End has an average playing time of 60 minutes which is not too long or short when comparing times of other board games.

Skill – Complexity

While this game is not considered to be complex it does require an element of skill and knowledge. Players have to answer questions, which can consist of slogans or definitions. Therefore, there is an element of testing and challenge to the game.

The trivia aspect of it will challenge people of all ages and the riddles will get everyone thinking.

Set Up – Playing Rules & Instructions

Wit’s End the board game consists of a board, pieces and cards, which means that set up is simple. A roll of the die enables players to move along the board. They then have to answer questions that come from four categories: TEASER, ODD-1-OUT, SEQUENCE or WILD CARD.

Players will then have to answer brain teasers or riddles with the aim of reaching the center of the board. In order to move up, players have to land on a specific square before answering right. If they get the question wrong, they will move down to a lower ring.

Wit's end game cards with questions

The first player to reach the center of the board is no longer at their Wit’s end and the champion of that session.

Versions – Editions

The game has remained fairly unchanged throughout the years.

There’s a junior edition of Wit’s end that is not quite as popular as the original, but many people enjoy playing this edition. Its questions are easier of course.

Likes & Dislikes

Players of the Wit’s End board game love the way in which it challenges and gets a laugh, however, it has been classed to be difficult for some. There are some easier questions in there but many believe that it gives those who have more of a knowledge on trivia an advantage.

Final Thoughts

A board game that has a simple idea and play style. However, it could be considered too difficult to play for some adults, let alone 16 – year old children.

Despite this, it ‘s simple to set up and will give people a laugh for an hour or two, or possibly a headache and have them at their Wit’s end if they’re lacking in knowledge.
