Beat The Parents Board Game

About – Description

Beat the Parents board game puts the children against the parents in a trivia game that is designed for players aged 8 and over.

This game was first released in 2004 and is suitable for up to four players. It’s a family game that brings the family together for a fun-filled game that takes around 30-minutes to complete.

Who’s it best suited for?

The whole idea behind the game is to put the children head-to-head with the parents in a game of trivia.

It’s a game that is designed to test both children and adults and there could be an educational aspect to it based on the questions that are asked but it is all about giving kids the chance to have fun and beat the parents primarily.

Skill – Complexity

Beat the Parents is a simple board game based around a simple idea and so, there are no real skills required to complete the game.

Due to the way in which the game is played, there is no prior skills required because this is a trivia-based game that is designed to test the children and adults. Of course, general trivia knowledge is needed, but it’s fairly easy.

It is a simple game of answering questions and of moving markers across a board.

Set Up – Playing Rules & Instructions

Set up is extremely simple and the box consists of a board, 55 parents wild cards, 55 question cards, 55 kids wild cards and 12 player tokens.

The three decks of cards are shuffled and then set aside and teams have to place their movers on their starting position on the board.

The game begins with parents asking kids the first question, if a correct answer is given then the marker is moved one space and another question is asked. If an incorrect answer is given the turn ends.

If players land on a wildcard space, they can pick up their own wild card and continue with their turn but if they land on an oppositions wild card if the turn ends and they still remain on one of their wild card spaces.

Should a player land on the same space as the opposition, the opposition is then moved back two spaces.

The winning team is determined by the first team to reach the other side of the board.

Versions – Editions

A number of versions of the game have been released across the world and a special edition Disney version has been released.

Likes & Dislikes

This is considered to be a fun-filled family game that brings people together for a quick game that can be enjoyed by all. Players enjoy the simplicity of the game and the way in which it can be set up and played in just 30 minutes.

However, there are some players who feel as though the age group is too young and the fact that the game can only be played so many times before players learn the answers to the questions.

Final Thoughts

There is no doubt that this is an exciting game for the family and children in particular. It is fast paced and gives children the chance to get one over on the parents although it could end very differently. In the main, this is a great family game that is designed to bring the family together.

There are better trivia and family games you can consider, but beat the parents is easily a non-expensive addition that can be added to many families tabletop game collections.
