About – Description

Acquire the board game was first released in 1964 and designed by Sid Sackson. This strategy game is aimed at players that are over the age of 12 and is suitable for 2-6 players. It is best played with four players with gameplay lasting around 90 minutes.

The game is suitable for those who like to play strategy games that require an element of planning and forward thinking.

It could be seen as an educational game for all players due to the investment nature of the game and so, it could be a great learning tool for younger players in particular.

As this is a strategy game, it’s considered to be a more than average complex game. There is an element of skill required as players will have to use strategies in order to succeed at the game.

Set Up – Playing Rules & Instructions

The game consists of a board, sequenced tiles that relate to spaces on the board, colored markers, shares of stock for each hotel chain, play money and charts consisting of market prices.

All players are given money and playing tiles at random while being made the owner of a hotel chain. They then have to place a tile that represents the hotel on the board while having the option to purchase stock.

Players have the ability to create new hotel chains, grow an existing chain or merge chains. Hotel founders are given a share of stock in new chains and when a player owns stock that is acquired by a larger chain, players earn money based on the size of the chain acquired.

The aim of the game is about making the right decisions and investments with the winner being the person who has the most money at the end.

The game has been released in many different countries throughout the years including Germany, France and Holland. A world map edition was released in 1964 but the game, in general, has remained unchanged.

    • It is a solid strategy game that gives players a lot to think about although, in some instances, some players feel as though there could be more in the game to make it interesting and engaging.

    Players also felt that if the game was played with a large number of players that you can wait a significant amount of time for your turn to come around again.
