Pictionary board game

About – Description

The board game Pictionary has been a strong contender for one of the most popular games of all time since its release in 1985.

Pictionary 1st edition
Pictionary 1st Ed. Box and Contents.

It was designed by Rob Angel and is suitable for players over the age of 12. This party game is ideal for up to 12 players although it is best played with up to 8 players while it takes around 90 minutes to play.

Who’s it best suited for?

This is an educational game in some ways but it is best suited to a party environment where everyone is in the mood to have some fun rather than learn anything.

Skill – Complexity

Pictionary is a very simple game to play with no real complexity. Players are required to draw move markers around a board and draw, with those two aspects of the game being the most difficult.

Set Up – Playing Rules & Instructions

Setup is relatively simple. There’s a board, cards, board movers, a die and paper. The board has to be laid out with the cards in the center and when this is done, the game is ready to play.

First thing to do once set is done is decide your teams and decide who is playing with who.

One person on each team (2 per team) has to be the picturist – the person who draws the picture and the game begins with rolling the die. The team with the highest roll pick the card and the All Play category is selected for the first round which involves everyone.

The picturist has five seconds before they have to sketch the picture. This is where all players guess and the team that guesses first rolls the die and then advances around the board.

The picturists now switch over and a card is drawn. Now the category that they have to draw depends on the square that they have landed. In this round and all other rounds, only teammates can make guesses. For every correct answer, the die is rolled with the winner being the first team that reaches the finish square.

Versions – Editions

The game has been released in several countries but a number of editions have been released including the 20th-anniversary edition and the National Parks Edition.

Likes & Dislikes

Players enjoy the simplicity yet fun aspect of the game as it is quick to set up, play and begin enjoying. The fact that it is perfect at parties is another aspect that people love.

Final Thoughts

The board game Pictionary certainly has the ability to bring people together and get some real laughs. The setup and idea are very simple and as it can be played by children as young as 12, it could be tempting for families to play.

The game is not too long when played in a group which is always a positive, especially at parties.
