Luxor game being played
Henk Rolleman – On the hunt for priceless treasures, groups of adventurers explore the legendary temple at Luxor

The player who gets their team of adventurers over to the pharaoh’s tomb the fastest, whilst picking up as many treasures as possible, will win the game.

Best Suited for 2 – 4 Players – ages 8+ (Families)

Players aged 8+ as gameplay requires some concentration so isn’t really suitable for very young children. There are some small parts too, so keep it away from little ones under 36 months.

Luxor is designed for 2-4 players so it’s ideal for small groups.

Skill/Complexity

This game is of low to medium complexity making it ideal for children of junior school age.

Gameplay – How does it Play!

In Luxor, players roll the dice and try to get to the pharaoh’s tomb which is in the middle of the game board. The game starts with each player having 5 cards and two adventurers; these cards are given in a set order which can’t be changed.

Luxor set up and components
Solid Components – Nice Set Up

To begin the game, players must select an adventurer to go first. Each time an adventurer comes up against an Anubis statue, a new adventurer is put on the starting point as a new addition to the team. The game ends when two adventurers reach the tomb first!

  • Fast paced and fun.
  • Interactive.

thumbs down

  • Quite a lot of set up.

Luxor is a popular multi-player game with reviewers particularly enjoying the fact that it’s easy to learn and has no real down time. It’s also family friendly – perfect for a rainy Saturday afternoon!

However, the game itself can take a while to set up and many people say it’s better with the latest expansion.

Expansions – Editions

There are a number of expansions for this game, all of which were released in 2018. These are:

  • Luxor: Exclusive Queenie
  • Luxor: Queenie 1 – Swarm of Scarabs

  • Luxor: The Gift of Luxor

There is also the latest one, released in 2019 called Luxor: The Mummy’s Curse.

Final Thoughts

Overall, Luxor is an interactive, fun racing and set collection that is packed with twists and turns. It exercises your brain without being overly complex and doesn’t take itself too seriously, plus the theme and concept is pretty unique.

It’s a true family favorite that can be enjoyed time again whilst still remaining fresh and engaging.
