About – Description
Aggravation is a family board game that was first released in 1962. It’s a game that is aimed at all of the family and is suited for players aged over 6 years old.
This tabletop game was designed by Harry W. First and is suitable for up to and best enjoyed when played with six players. It has a playing time of 45 minutes.
Who’s it best suited for?
The board game aggravation is ideal for families with children. The colorful board, marbles and the way in which the game is played makes this the ideal choice, especially if young children are playing.
Skill – Complexity
There is no skill required to play the game and there is no knowledge required to play and win.
As it’s aimed at children and families, it is not a complex game to play. All that is required is for players to roll a die and move.
Set Up – Playing Rules & Instructions
Set up is relatively simple with there being a board, 30 marbles and a die.
To play the game, players have four marbles in their base and the die is rolled on each turn in order to determine how many spaces can be moves. All marbles stay at the base until a 1 or a 6 is rolled but when this happens, a player can move a marble to the start. If a six is rolled, then this enables the player to have another turn when it becomes possible to make a legal move.
Players can take shortcuts by using the hole in the middle of the board. If a player lands a marble in this hole then they can choose to take the fastest route home. However, exiting the shortcut can only be achieved by rolling a 1 on the die.
Should a players marble land on the marble of another player, that marble aggravates that players marble and sends it back to the base. A marble cannot be aggravated if it is on an inside corner while players cannot pass their own marble. If this happens then it is not possible to move.
The winner is determined when the first player gets all of their pieces home.
Versions – Editions
Aggravation has not changed throughout the decades although a travel edition was released in 1980.
